Dr. Mike Majmundar, double board certified facial plastic and reconstructive surgeon, performs Natural Necklifts and extended Natural Necklifts for the residents of Atlanta, Sandy Springs, Alpharetta, and the surrounding communities in Georgia.
Our Natural Necklift is a procedure used to correct moderate to severe excess neck skin laxity, lines, and crepey skin in the lower neck. Candidates for this procedure generally are concerned with the appearance of their neck but are not bothered by any sagging in the face. Individuals who are concerned with heaviness in the chin, such as a double chin, in addition to moderate or severe excess skin laxity or crepey skin and are over 45 years of age would be better candidates for an Extended Natural Necklift and addresses the double chin component better than our Natural Necklift alone.
The Natural Necklift differs from other Necklifts in 4 major ways.
- Unlike traditional necklifts that rely on pulling the skin to obtain the lift, in our Natural Necklift, tissues and muscles underneath the skin are tightened instead followed by a gentle redraping of the neck skin over the tightened tissues. Excess skin is still removed, but because we don’t rely on pulling the skin to get the lift, we can avoid a pulled or overdone appearance every time.
- Because the skin isn’t pulled tightly, there is less tension on the incision when sutured back together. The incisions are behind the ear except in the Extended Natural Necklift where the incision extends into the crease in front of the ear lobe. When skin is pulled too tightly, it can not only give a person a pulled look but it also causes the scars to widen and become unsightly. This is a problem for women who pull their hair back, wear their hair short, or for men who have short hair. By avoiding this stress on the skin with the Natural Necklift or Extended Natural Necklift, the incisions heal almost invisibly allowing the person to wear their hair any way they want.
- Vertical bands that appear in the midline of the neck are a result of a sagging muscle called the platysma muscle. Banding is always addressed at no additional cost in every patient with the sagging platysma muscle. In addition, when needed, neck liposuction is also performed at no additional cost to provide the smoothest contour to your new neckline.
- Greater than 90% of patients undergoing the Natural Necklift or Extended Natural Necklift do not complain about pain. Every person has a different pain tolerance and, as such, pain medicine is provided to every patient; however, greater than 90% of patients undergoing this procedure use nothing more than Tylenol.
The downtime with the procedure averages 12 days. The first week, we ask our patients not to perform any heavy lifting, bending over, or strenuous activities. On day 7, we let our patients resume those activities but bruising and swelling usually takes, on average, 12 days from the date of surgery to resolve. Patients do not complain about pain with this procedure and most individuals will use Tylenol for pain relief if needed.
Anesthesia: IV sedation or general anesthesia
Procedure Length: On average, 1 – 1 ½ hours; Extended Necklift, on average, is 2 hours.
Recovery: On average, 12 days for bruising and swelling to resolve.
